Increase buffer size before starting playback?

I'm currently using the universal player and the embed script provided by the generator and was wondering if it was possible to increase the buffer size before playback once the play button has been pressed. My viewers are finding it frustrating that they are getting the 'streaming video' problem of the stream not downloading fast enough..

However when I link them to directly download the video and it opens into a browser and plays (while downloading, for instance when the quicktime plugin handles that file type and launches a browser instead of just downloading), it performs flawlessly.

Is it a problem with how the video is being streamed vs download? Is there anything I can do to overcome this?

    Hello,
A very long buffer causes a long delay before playback starts. A very short buffer causes stuttering. Overdoing it in either direction is problematic, depending on users' connection speeds. There is no reason we can't expose setting the flash video buffer size through the player API. I will add this to our queue of features and let you know when its ready.

Until we release this feature in the standard player, you could create your own Flash player or use a third party one. The new ActionScript 3 API Library and accompanying examples are a great way to get a player going.

Please note that the ActionScript 3 API Library is available on our Developer site.

You might be interested in this step-by-step tutorial I just posed. It shows how to create a cross-platform, mobile-emabled embed. This embed serves your own custom Flash player if the user has Flash. Check it out on the forums here.
