In order to allow people to upload and view videos on my site, via SV, I need to default the videos to public.
Is there a setting for this? Or an API call i can place when it is uploaded?
    thanks

You can set the public/private status of a video both in the interface and through the API.

To do it through the interface:

Log into your account, and highlight the desired video or videos by clicking on them in the list. Then click on the "Share" tab over on the left. There'll be a "make public" checkbox right there.

To do it through the API, you'll want to query the /video/info API call. One of the parameters you can set is the public/private status. For the nitty gritty, check out the documentation here:

This should really be an option in the account options page.

Interesting idea jamie: we will consider it. You could create an uploader with the API or modify an existing example to set the video to public right after upload.

I've already done that thanks to your superb help. (I'm working on adding tags based on the original file format next.) The level of API access you guys provide is superb, but some easy defaults like these may make the service more attractive to newcomers who want to use the web interface only.

We are in the process of building an improved front-end and your feedback is much appreciated. On one hand, I can see how this would be useful. On the other hand, this is a very drastic default behavior and if a user sets it and then forgets about it the consequences would be potentially drastic. We will carefully consider this. Are there any other global settings you would find useful?

It would be nice to have a setting in the member area where you can choose to have all videos public by default.

    Hello,
What do you mean by member area? As in account area? Or a per-user setting?
    Thanks

I meant a global setting in the account area where you can choose an option that all uploaded videos are public automatically. However, some people might need an option to set this per user.

Interesting - thanks for your thoughts. We will consider this for our feature addition list.
